Without Daddy Week One

"see you soons"

Daniel is in the midst of his two week annual training with the Indiana Army National Guard in Indianapolis. He left Friday June 22nd after he got off work at Comcast and drove down. When Daniel is in Indy he is fortunate enough to stay with his brother, Adam, and sister-in-law, Sarah, at their home. It's good to catch up and a lot better then staying in a hotel for 2 weeks. Because the truck was packed the night before, Daniel came home got changed out of his work clothes and we said our see you soons.

On Saturday, Cadee and I got to party... baby shower style that is. In her short 4 weeks this is her 3rd baby shower, only one of which was her own. This time we were celebrating one of my coworkers friends. The baby shower was outside, it was beautiful, and great to visit with everyone. No matter how many baby showers I've been too or the fact that I am a "new mommy" shower games elude me. I can be using diapers, bottles, and pacifiers but to unscramble the letters and put them in order and win a game is nearly impossible. Nevertheless it was fun to be with coworkers I haven't spend much time with, since I'm not working right now.

Snoozing on the couch

That night was rough, I don't know if Cadee missed her Daddy or had to much excitement from the day or what but sleep was not something Cadee wanted to do... so we were wide awake all night long, except for 2 hours. Since we were up we went to first service at church, my little girl is kinda famous I guess, or my dad is just so eager to tell everyone about his first grandchild. I dressed her in one of the beautiful outfits my friend and coworker, Lindsay, made for Cadee. The skirt is so colorful and the onesie even has a lace ribbon inset up on the color. We had a lot of thoughtful comments and congratulations. Pastor Dave came and sat with me a bit before service and asked how I was doing and how "Little Brinkster" was. I reminded him I hadn't been a Brink for nearly 4 years and that Cadee was a "Little Carr". He laughed. We made it through service and all but the last 5 minutes of dad's Sunday school class. Guess she was tired since she didn't sleep all night. After church dad invited me over to the house, he watched his grandgirl while I took a much needed nap. When mom got off work we headed to Plymouth to see my grandma.

Monday morning I put Cadee in another Lindsay original and took the third, an outfit for when she's a bit older, over to my neighbors house. Juston and Candace have a little girl named Ember and Candace is going to watch Cadee a few days a week when I go back to work. The girls have met before and it's so funny to watch them interact. The few days ago Ember was very interested in Cadee's pacifier and the fact that when she pulled it out of her mouth she cried. After about the 3rd time Em figured out that pacifiers go in the mouth and she pulled it from Cadee and instead of throwing it on the floor like previously, she stuck it in her mouth. They learn so quick! There is a reason I'm not a photographer, staging shots is not easy... especially when you are working with babies.

That afternoon I took Cadence to her 3rd chiropractor appointment. Cadee didn't want to lay on the table this time so I ended up holding her and Virginia adjusted her that way. Now we just need to watch her neck and make sure she doesn't go back to favoring one side over another. We'll have to take her back if that happens but other than that Cadee will be improving her neck strength daily.

I'm trying to stay busy, I'm getting sick of being at home all the time and cleaning a clean house gets boring. Tuesday mom asked off work and went with Cadee and I to Shipshewana. My sister, Christy, and her new husband Kevin met us there as well as my cousin, Amy, and Aunt Cindy from Lansing. We enjoyed ourselves at the flea market in the morning but after eating headed into town to the air conditioned mercantile. I took Cadee on what I hope is the first of many merry-go-rounds. She slept through it. I think it was more for me then her but owell. At one point I had Christy make a formula bottle for Cadee. We have one of those plastic containers with the separators in it to divide the powder for three different bottles. We had already used one section and as Christy was shaking up the second bottle I looked at her straight faced and asked if she was making Cadee the strawberry or chocolate? She seemed really concerned and answered I'm not sure, they weren't marked. Oh Christy how I love you and how gullible you are! We met back up with the big group for dinner at Das Dutchman Essenhaus for a great dinner and then moaned the whole way home about how full we were. Amy and her dog, Sam, came back to Nappanee with us. She's staying with Cadee and I until mid July to help while Daniel is gone. Christy also decided to come back to Nappanee with us for the night. Sleepover with 4 girls & 3 dogs!

Wednesday June 27th- Cadee is one month old! Amy and I were watching the news and they mentioned a new app that helps parents figure out how tall their young babies will be. I am only 5'6" and Daniel is 5'7" but this app claims our precious little Cadence will be an astounding 5'10" tall. Guess we'll find out in 15 or so years if it is true. We got the decals put up in Cadee's nursery. I'm glad we didn't paint now, the light cream on the walls allows us to have lots of other colors from different sources like her bedding and accessories. The last photo is very funny, I had to laugh how she fell asleep with her hand on her head.

Thursday was 103* outside and we closed all the blinds and ate popsicles. The dogs wanted to be outside but we'd make them come in as soon as they finished their business. Amy and I made cookie dough and froze it to make later and we blew bubbles in the living room and let the dogs pop them. What a lazy day but it was much needed.

On Friday, Amy and I drove with Cadee down to Indy to spend the next few days with Daniel at Adam & Sarah's, my brother-in-law and sister-in-law, house. After finding out the Friday evening concert was going to be outside we decided not to try and go but wait for another concert. We got a late start leaving Nappanee because of a storm that came through. As we were driving south we noticed a lot of down branches and haystacks blown over. We hit Kokomo at rush hour and the power was out so many of the intersections became four-way stops.

Early morning cries from Cadee got to be soothed by her daddy. Amy and I went to the base mid afternoon in search of infant onesies. We found the perfect one but you'll have to wait to see it on a later post. On the way home we stopped and visited my cousin Nicole and her family. Abby and Gavin were very helpful feeding Cadee and sharing their toys with her. We are very blessed with family who are helping us this week is so many ways!
